Paul Francis Tompkins (born September 12, 1968) is a super talented American comedian, actor, and writer. He's famous for his funny roles on TV and in movies. You might also know his voice from popular cartoons!
Paul is well-known for his many appearances on podcasts. He's been on Comedy Bang! Bang! over 200 times! He also hosted his own shows like No, You Shut Up! and Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins. His podcast, The Pod F. Tompkast, was even named one of the best comedy podcasts by Rolling Stone magazine.
From 2014 to 2020, Paul was the voice of Mr. Peanutbutter, a friendly yellow dog, on the Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman. He has also acted in serious movies like There Will Be Blood and The Informant!. In 2021, he had a role in the TV show Rutherford Falls.

Paul Francis Tompkins was born on September 12, 1968. His hometown is Mount Airy, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up with two brothers and three older sisters.
Comedy and Acting Career
Starting in Comedy
Paul Tompkins first tried comedy when he was just 17 years old. This was in 1986 at The Comedy Works in Philadelphia. He performed as part of a funny duo with his friend Rick Roman.
Paul went to Temple University, but he later left. In 1994, he moved to Los Angeles, California, to follow his dreams.
In Los Angeles, Paul met actor Jay Johnston. They became friends through their mutual friend, Adam McKay. Paul and Adam had started doing stand-up comedy around the same time in Philadelphia. Paul and Jay created a live comedy show called "The Skates." This show helped them get hired to work on Mr. Show with Bob and David in 1996.
Live Comedy Shows
Paul Tompkins is known for his unique style of stand-up comedy. He often tells long, funny stories and shares his observations about life. He talks about silly things like peanut brittle or whether cake is better than pie. He also shares stories from his own life and family.
Paul always performs in a suit and tie, sometimes with a bowtie. People often describe his look as "dapper," which means neat and stylish.

He also had a recurring role on the Tenacious D TV series. He played a nightclub manager. He later played this role again in the band's movie Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.
Paul has appeared on many TV shows. These include NewsRadio, Frasier, Weeds, Community, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He played Prescott in the movie There Will Be Blood (2007). He was also an FBI Agent in The Informant! (2009).

Paul Tompkins has lent his voice to many animated TV shows. He was on Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, King of the Hill, and Bob's Burgers, where he voices the character Randy. He was also the voice of a thug in the 2010 Disney movie Tangled.
He played Mr. Peanutbutter in the Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman. He also voices Gladstone Gander in the DuckTales reboot. In 2020, he voiced Dr. Migleemo, a therapist, in the CBS All Access animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.

In 2010, Paul started his own podcast called The Pod F. Tompkast. It featured him talking about different topics and clips from his live shows. This podcast ended in 2012.
He also hosted Dead Authors, a live show where he played H.G. Wells. This show also became a popular podcast.
In 2012, Paul started a weekly web series called Speakeasy. In this show, he interviewed famous people from the entertainment industry. He had casual chats with guests like Nathan Fillion and Zach Galifianakis.

Paul is married to actress Janie Haddad Tompkins. She is known for voicing Margret, a red bird, on the show Regular Show.
Paul has shared that he was raised Catholic but later became an atheist. He is also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
