Comedy and Acting Career

Starting in Comedy

Paul went to Temple University, but he later left. In 1994, he moved to Los Angeles, California, to follow his dreams.

In Los Angeles, Paul met actor Jay Johnston. They became friends through their mutual friend, Adam McKay. Paul and Adam had started doing stand-up comedy around the same time in Philadelphia. Paul and Jay created a live comedy show called "The Skates." This show helped them get hired to work on Mr. Show with Bob and David in 1996.

Live Comedy Shows

Paul Tompkins is known for his unique style of stand-up comedy. He often tells long, funny stories and shares his observations about life. He talks about silly things like peanut brittle or whether cake is better than pie. He also shares stories from his own life and family.

Paul always performs in a suit and tie, sometimes with a bowtie. People often describe his look as "dapper," which means neat and stylish.

Paul performs regularly in Los Angeles. Since 2002, he has had a monthly show called The Paul F. Tompkins Show at Largo. Famous guests like Jack Black and Weird Al Yankovic have appeared on his show. He was also a regular in Thrilling Adventure Hour, a live show that sounded like old-time radio.

Paul has toured across the US and Canada. He prefers to perform in smaller, independent places. In 2009, he started his "Tompkins 300" tour. He used Twitter to ask for 300 people to come to his shows. Fans even started Facebook groups to help him book shows in other cities!
