Paula Fernandes grew up on a farm in Sete Lagoas, Brazil, with her parents and younger brother. When she was 18, she moved to Belo Horizonte to study Geography in college.
Starting Her Singing Career
Paula began singing at a very young age, when she was just eight years old. She released her first album, called Paula Fernandes, in 1993. Two years later, in 1995, she released her second album, Ana Rayo. This album was inspired by a popular Brazilian TV show called A História de Ana Raio e Zé Trovão.
In 2005, one of her songs, "Ave Maria Natureza", became a theme song for another TV show, América. That same year, she released the album Canções do Vento Sul. This album earned her a nomination for the Best Popular Singer Award in Brazil. In 2007, Paula even released an English album called Dust in the Wind, which had an American western style.
Rising to Fame
Paula's song "Jeito de Mato" from her 2009 album, Pássaro de Fogo, was used in the TV show Paraíso. Her version of "Quando a Chuva Passar" also became the main theme for the TV show Escrito nas Estrelas.
In October 2010, Paula released her first DVD. She became even more famous after appearing on two special TV shows in Brazil: the Roberto Carlos end-of-year show and Show da Virada on New Year's Eve. Her live album, Paula Fernandes – Ao Vivo, released in 2011, was the best-selling album that year. Paula also became known across Latin America when she sang with Juanes on his 2012 album MTV Unplugged.
