Paulo Gustavo Amaral Monteiro de Barros (born October 30, 1978 – died May 4, 2021), known as Paulo Gustavo, was a famous Brazilian actor, comedian, director, and writer. He also hosted TV shows.
He became very well-known for his play Minha Mãe é uma Peça (My Mom is a Character). This play was so popular that it became a movie in 2013. The movie was the most watched film in Brazil that year! Later, in 2015, it was even turned into a book. Because people loved it so much, two more movies were made: Minha Mãe é uma Peça 2 in 2016 and Minha Mãe é uma Peça 3 in 2019.
Paulo Gustavo studied acting at Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras (CAL) and finished his studies in 2005.

Paulo Gustavo's Career Highlights
Paulo Gustavo started to become famous in late 2004. He joined a play called Surto (Outbreak). In this play, he created a funny character named Dona Hermínia. After he finished acting school in 2005, he joined another play called Infraturas. Around this time, he also started appearing on TV in small roles. He was in the soap opera Prova de Amor and the series A Diarista.
In 2006, his most famous play, Minha Mãe É Uma Peça, first opened. He wrote the play himself and played Dona Hermínia again. This character was a typical middle-aged mom, often feeling stressed but always funny. Her stories came from everyday life. The play was a huge success and was later made into movies.
In 2010, Paulo Gustavo starred in a new show called Hiperativo. In 2011, he became the host of a TV show called 220 Volts. In 2013, a comedy TV show called Vai Que Cola started on Multishow, where he played a main character. This show also became a movie in 2015. In 2014, he had another show called Paulo Gustavo na Estrada.
Later, in 2017, he left Vai Que Cola to join a new show called A Vila. In 2018, he recorded a live performance of his play Minha Mãe é uma Peça for a DVD.
Paulo Gustavo's Life
Paulo Gustavo grew up in Niterói, Brazil, in a regular family. He went to Colégio Salesiano for elementary school. On December 20, 2015, he married dermatologist Thales Bretas.
In 2019, Paulo Gustavo shared happy news on his Instagram. He announced that he and his husband had become parents to two sons, Romeu and Gael.
Illness and Passing
On March 13, 2021, Paulo Gustavo was admitted to the hospital because he had COVID-19. His health got worse, and on April 2, he needed a special machine to help him breathe. Even after showing some improvement, on May 3, he had a serious health problem called a pulmonary embolism. This made his condition very unstable.
Paulo Gustavo passed away the next day, on May 4, 2021, at the age of 42.
