About Peachna Conservation Park
This park is a place where nature is kept safe. It used to be called the Peachna Conservation Reserve. It helps protect important plants and animals.
Where is Peachna Park Located?
The conservation park is found in an area known as the Hundred of Peachna. It's just west of the Tod Highway. Part of its southern border is a road called Nowhere Else Road. This road goes from Tooligie to Sheringa.
How Peachna Park Was Created
The Peachna Conservation Park became a protected area on 11 November 1993. This happened under a law called the Crown Lands Act 1929. Later, on 22 March 2007, it was officially named Peachna Conservation Park. This new name was given under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972.
The park was set up to "conserve remnant vegetation." This means it protects the original plants that still grow there. Mining activities are allowed in some parts of the park under the Mining Act 1971.
Why is it Called Peachna?
The park's name comes from the area it's in, the Hundred of Peachna. At first, people thought about naming it Tooligie Conservation Park. However, the Geographical Names Board did not approve that name. So, Peachna Conservation Park was approved on 2 April 1990. Even though the name was approved, the park was first opened as the Peachna Conservation Reserve in 1993.
What Plants Grow Here?
In 2007, reports showed that Peachna Conservation Park is mostly covered by mallee plants. Mallee is a type of eucalyptus tree that grows with many stems from the ground.
- One common plant is the Eucalyptus diversifolia, also known as Coastal White Mallee.
- Another important plant is the Eucalyptus porosa, or Mallee Box.
These plants form special communities within the park.
Visiting the Park
As of 2007, there were no paths or ways for visitors to go into the park's inner areas. There were also no plans to create visitor access at that time.
Park Protection Category
The Peachna Conservation Park is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area. This means it's a protected area where natural resources can be used sustainably. The main goal is to protect the ecosystem and its natural values.
