Peacock is a small, unincorporated community located in Stonewall County, Texas, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually governed by the county. In 2000, it was estimated that about 125 people lived in Peacock.
Where is Peacock, Texas?
Peacock is found in the western part of Stonewall County. It's about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of U.S. Highway 380. You can reach it by taking FM 2211.
Peacock's Early Days
When Peacock was first settled, it had a different name: Alluvia. It was built along a railroad line called the Stamford and Northwestern Railroad. This railroad used to connect the towns of Stamford and Plainview. The train tracks crossed the Salt Fork Brazos River not far from Peacock. There was even a nearby community called Oriana, which is now a ghost town.
Education in Peacock
Students living in Peacock attend public schools managed by the Aspermont Independent School District. This district provides education for children in the area. The community's post office, which handled mail for residents, closed down in 1993.
