Pearisburg is a town located in Giles County, Virginia, in the United States. It is also the main town, known as the county seat, where the local government offices are. In 2020, about 2,909 people lived there. Pearisburg is part of a larger area called the Blacksburg-Christiansburg metropolitan area.

History of Pearisburg
Pearisburg was started in 1808. This was the same year that Giles County was officially created. The town got its name from George Pearis. He was a local landowner who gave 50 acres of his land. This land was used to build the town around the county courthouse. Before the town was founded, George Pearis ran a ferry service on the New River. This ferry was in a place called "Bluff City," which is now part of Pearisburg.
Geography and Location
Pearisburg is found a little west of the middle of Giles County. It is located at coordinates 37.329184 degrees North and -80.732490 degrees West. The town sits south of the New River. It is also at the bottom of Pearis Mountain. This mountain is about 3,700 feet tall and is southwest of the town.
The famous Appalachian Trail goes down Pearis Mountain. It then passes through the western edge of Pearisburg. After that, it crosses the New River.
Roads and Travel
- U.S. Route 460 runs along the north side of Pearisburg.
- It goes southeast about 24 miles to Blacksburg.
- It goes west about 27 miles to Princeton, West Virginia.
- Virginia Route 100 goes through the center of Pearisburg.
- It leads south about 20 miles to Dublin, which is close to Interstate 81.
Pearisburg covers a total area of about 8.2 square kilometers (3.2 square miles). Only a very small part of this area, about 0.01 square kilometers (0.004 square miles), is water.
