About the Statue
The Pedro Albizu Campos statue was created by Rafael Lopez del Campo. It stands nine feet tall. The statue was made at the foundry of another Puerto Rican sculptor, Severo Romero. A foundry is a place where metal is melted and shaped into objects.
The statue was officially shown to the public in 1992. It stands on top of a six-foot-high base. This base is made of concrete and marble. Rafael Cordero Santiago, who was the mayor of Ponce at that time, strongly supported building this monument. The Union de Tronquistas de Puerto Rico helped collect money from donations to pay for the statue.
