Pedro Bandeira de Luna Filho, born on March 9, 1942, is a famous Brazilian writer. He is known for his many books for children and young adults. Pedro Bandeira has won awards and sold millions of copies of his books. He is especially famous for his mystery series called Os Karas.

About Pedro Bandeira
Pedro Bandeira was born in Santos, a city in São Paulo, Brazil. When he was younger, he enjoyed acting in plays and painting sets for the theater. In 1961, he moved to São Paulo city. There, he studied advertising at the University of São Paulo.
After finishing his studies, Pedro Bandeira worked as a writer for a newspaper called Última Hora. Later, in 1972, he started writing for children at a publishing company called Editora Abril. His stories first appeared in magazines.
Becoming a Full-Time Writer
Pedro Bandeira's first book, O Dinossauro que Fazia "Au-Au" (The Dinosaur That Went "Woof-Woof"), came out in 1983. It was very popular and successful. This encouraged him to become a full-time writer for children's books.
In 1984, he released A ... da Obediência, the first book in his exciting Os Karas series. This series became incredibly popular. By 2012, this first book alone had sold over 1.6 million copies!
Another one of his famous books is O Fantástico Mistério de Feiurinha (The Fantastic Mystery of Feiurinha). This book won the Prêmio Jabuti award in 1986. It was even made into a movie in 2009, starring the famous Brazilian TV host Xuxa Meneghel.
His book A Marca de uma Lágrima (The Mark of a Tear), published in 1985, also won an award. It received the APCA Award in 1986. This story is a loose adaptation of a classic play called Cyrano de Bergerac.
Pedro Bandeira's Success
By 2012, Pedro Bandeira had written over 80 books. Together, these books had sold more than 23 million copies! This makes him one of the most successful authors of youth literature in Brazil.
The sixth and final book in the Os Karas series, A ... da Amizade, was released in 2014. In 2017, Pedro Bandeira also released his first novel for adults, called Melodia .... He wrote this book with a doctor named Guido Levi.
Pedro Bandeira lives in São Roque with his wife, Lia. They have three children.

Awards and Recognitions
Pedro Bandeira has received many awards and honors for his contributions to literature.
- In 2003, he was named a Citizen of São Paulo by the city council.
- In 2011, he received the title of Sanroquense Citizen from the São Roque City Council.
- In 2012, he was awarded the Brás Cubas Medal of Merit by the Santos City Council.
