Pedro Bandeira de Luna Filho, born on March 9, 1942, is a super popular Brazilian writer. He writes amazing books for children and teenagers. He's best known for his exciting mystery series called Os Karas. This series has six books, including A Droga da Obediência (1984) and A Droga da Amizade (2014). Pedro Bandeira is one of Brazil's best-selling authors for young readers!

Pedro Bandeira's Life Story
Pedro Bandeira was born in Santos, São Paulo, on March 9, 1942. When he was younger, he loved theater. He acted in plays and even painted the scenery for them. In 1961, he moved to São Paulo. There, he studied advertising at the University of São Paulo (USP).
After college, Pedro started writing for newspapers and magazines. He worked as a writer for Última Hora and later for Editora Abril. He began writing stories especially for kids in 1972. These stories first appeared in magazines.
First Books and Big Success
His first book, O Dinossauro que Fazia "Au-Au" (The Dinosaur That Said "Woof-Woof"), came out in 1983. It was a huge hit! This success made Pedro decide to focus only on writing books for children and young adults.
In 1984, he released A Droga da Obediência. This was the first book in his famous Os Karas mystery series. By 2012, this one book alone had sold over 1.6 million copies!
Award-Winning Stories
Pedro Bandeira's book O Fantástico Mistério de Feiurinha (The Fantastic Mystery of Feiurinha) won a big award called the Prêmio Jabuti in 1986. This book was so popular that it was even made into a movie in 2009, starring the famous Brazilian TV host Xuxa Meneghel.
Another one of his popular books, A Marca de uma Lágrima (The Mark of a Tear), was published in 1985. It's a modern take on the classic play Cyrano de Bergerac. This book won the APCA Award in 1986.
Millions of Books Sold
Pedro Bandeira has written more than 80 books! By 2012, his books had sold over 23 million copies. That's a lot of readers! He is known as the author with the most books sold in youth literature in Brazil.
In 2014, he released A Droga da Amizade, which he said would be the last book in the Os Karas series. In 2017, he also wrote his first novel for adults, called Melodia Mortal. Pedro Bandeira now lives in São Roque with his wife, Lia. They have three children.
