Pedro Eugenio de Felipe Cortés (born July 18, 1944 – died April 12, 2016) was a Spanish football player. He was known for playing as a central defender.
Playing for Clubs
Pedro de Felipe was born in Madrid, Spain. He joined Real Madrid when he was young. In 1964, at age 20, he returned to Real Madrid after playing for Rayo Vallecano on loan.
In his first season (1964–65), he played in only four La Liga games. La Liga is Spain's top football league. The next two seasons, he played in 45 games. He helped Real Madrid win the 1965–66 European Cup. This was a big tournament for European club teams. He played in seven full matches during that winning season.
In 1967, Pedro had surgery on his knee after playing with an injury. He was out of action for several months. Even so, he played regularly in two of his last four years at Real Madrid. He left the club in 1972.
After leaving Real Madrid, he played for RCD Español for six more seasons in the top league. He retired from football at age 34 in 1978.
Pedro de Felipe was known as a strong defender. He played very tough. In a game on September 14, 1969, against FC Barcelona, he had a strong tackle. The Barcelona player, Miguel Ángel Bustillo, had scored two early goals. After the tackle, Bustillo was not able to play many more games for his team that season.
Playing for Spain
Pedro de Felipe played one game for the Spanish national team. This was a friendly match against Turkey on October 17, 1973. The game ended in a 0–0 draw in Istanbul. Pedro played the entire 90 minutes.
His Passing
Pedro de Felipe passed away on April 12, 2016, in Madrid. He was 71 years old and had been battling cancer.
