Pedro de Roxas Acevedo (born around 1594, died in the 1670s) was an important Spanish military officer and politician. He worked in Buenos Aires and Asunción, holding many important jobs. One of his biggest roles was serving as the temporary Governor of the Río de la Plata and Paraguay. He held this position from January 8, 1641, to July 17, 1641.

Early Life and Arrival in South America
Pedro de Roxas Acevedo was born in Garachico, a town on the island of Tenerife in Spain. His parents, Amador de Acevedo and Catalina de Roxas, were from Madrid. He traveled from Cádiz, Spain, and arrived in the Río de la Plata region in 1612.
Public Service in Buenos Aires
After settling in Buenos Aires, Pedro de Roxas Acevedo began his career in public service. In 1620, he became a notary public for the Cabildo of Buenos Aires. A notary public is someone who officially records important documents and agreements.
In 1626, he was chosen as an alcalde. An alcalde was like a mayor or a judge in a Spanish town. He also served as a regidor for the Ayuntamiento, which was the city council.
Important Leadership Roles
In 1641, Roxas was appointed as the temporary lieutenant governor of Buenos Aires. This meant he was a high-ranking official helping to govern the city. In the same year, he was also chosen to be the temporary governor of the entire Río de la Plata region. This was a very important job, showing how much people trusted him.
Family and Wealth
Pedro de Roxas Acevedo was married to María de Vega. Her parents were Diego de Vega and Blanca de Vasconcelos. Pedro and María had two sons, Thomas de Roxas and Amador de Roxas. Both of their sons also became important political figures in the 1600s.
Pedro de Roxas Acevedo and his family received large areas of land in Buenos Aires. Because of this, he was considered one of the wealthiest people of his time.
