Peep Hill is a small countryside area in the Mid North region of South Australia. It is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northeast of Adelaide. This area became official in August 2000, but people had known it by that name for a long time. In 2021, only 22 people lived in Peep Hill. It is part of the Regional Council of Goyder.

This place is called Peep Hill because of a round hill nearby. It is said to be the last hill you see when looking towards the east.

A Look at Peep Hill's Past

Peep Hill is located on the traditional lands of the Ngadjuri people. These Indigenous Australians lived here for thousands of years. Their history is very important to the area.

Early Settlers and Community Life

In 1876, a farmer named Johann Gottlieb Dohnt was one of the first European settlers in Peep Hill. By 1878, people described Peep Hill as a small settlement, not a big town.

The Peep Hill School opened in 1883. It was first called the Deep Creek School. However, it closed in 1939 because there were not enough students. The school building was taken down in 1950. By 1986, only a pile of rubble remained.

A Lutheran church group officially started in Peep Hill in 1888. However, church services had been held there since 1880. At first, the group met in the school building. Then, St Michael's Lutheran Church opened in 1890. The church was updated in 1936. It is still in use today as part of the Eudunda Robertstown Lutheran Parish.

Peep Hill also had a Post Office, which opened on July 1, 1883. It closed many years later, on November 1, 1930. The town also used to have a railway siding (a short track next to a main railway line) called Deep Creek station. This was on the Morgan railway line.
