Panagiota-Calliope Zina (Greek: Παναγιώτα-Καλλιόπη Ζήνα), known professionally as Peggy Zina (Greek: Πέγκυ Ζήνα), is a famous Greek singer. She was born on March 8, 1975. Peggy Zina started her music career in 1995 with her first album. Since then, she has released many studio albums. She is a very well-known artist in the Greek music world. In 2010, a TV channel called Alpha TV ranked her as one of the top female artists in Greece. She had earned many platinum and gold records by then.

Biography

Early Life and Music Start

Peggy Zina was born in Athens, Greece. She began playing the piano when she was five years old. She also studied dancing, especially jazz. As a teenager, Peggy Zina took part in many school activities. These included theater and singing in the choir. Her father, Giorgos Zinas, passed away when she was 14. Her mother, Stella Chrysikopoulou, later remarried Nikos Tsiftelis. Peggy Zina has said that Nikos supported her like a true father.

First Albums and Growing Fame (1995–2002)

Peggy Zina's first album, named Peggy Zina, came out in 1995. It was released by BMG Greece. This album included her first hit song, "An Pas Me Alli Tha Sou Spaso to Kefali." She started performing at clubs with other singers like Lefteris Pantazis and Notis Sfakianakis.

In 1998, she released her second album, Anevaines. She also sang a duet with Stelios Rokkos. Later, she worked with Sakis Rouvas in 1999.

In 2000, Peggy Zina joined a new music company, Nitro Music. She also changed her style. In July 2000, she released a CD single called "Ti Th' Akouso Akoma." This song was from her third album, Ena Hadi, which came out in 2001. She then performed with Christos Dantis and Notis Sfakianakis.

In 2002, Peggy Zina was asked to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest. She sang a song called "Love Is a Wonderful Thing." She came in second place in the Greek National Final. Her single quickly became a gold record.

In 2003, Peggy Zina signed a new deal with Minos EMI. Her fifth album, Mazi Sou (meaning With You), came out in 2003. It quickly became a platinum record, selling over 40,000 copies. The album had two huge hit songs: "Eimai Kala" and "Dystihos." Peggy Zina performed many shows at the Apollon club. She even broke a record for the most performances there.

In 2004, Peggy Zina released her album Matono (meaning I'm Bleeding). This album also became platinum. She won her first Arion Award for Best Folk (Laiko) Singer of the Year. In 2005, she performed in Australia and the United Kingdom. She also toured in the United States and Canada.

In September 2005, Peggy Zina released her seventh album, Noima (meaning Meaning). For this album, she worked with the famous composer Giorgos Theofanous. The album became a gold record on its first day. After a few months, it earned platinum certification. She won the Arion Award for Best Folk (Laiko) Singer of the Year again.

More Success and Family Life (2006–Present)

On December 8, 2006, Zina released Ena (meaning One). This album was recorded live and became platinum. It included popular songs like "Ena," "Ego Ta Spao," and "Eimai Edo." She also sang a duet with Christos Dantis for a MAD Secret Concert.

Peggy Zina married her longtime music manager, Giorgos Liras, in June 2007. They had been together for ten years. On December 4, 2007, she released the album Trekse (meaning Run). The songs from this album were already popular on the radio. The album quickly became a gold record. It reached number 2 on the Greek Albums Chart. In its sixth week, it became platinum. At the 5th annual MAD Video Music Awards, she performed a song and won an award for "Fashion Icon of the Year."

In June 2008, Zina released a collection of her greatest hits called Best of +. This album had two discs and included three new songs. The album was certified gold.

Her tenth studio album, To Pathos Einai Aformi (meaning Passion is a reason), was released in May 2009. The first song, "Anatheorisa," was released to radio stations earlier. The album was certified 2x platinum. That same year, Zina performed with Dimitris Mitropanos. Their show was very successful and traveled to other cities.

In May 2010, Zina recorded her eleventh studio album, Evaisthiti... I Logiki (meaning Sensitive... or logical). It was released on October 6, 2010. The album's songs were written by Giannis Christodolopoulos and Eleana Vrahali. The album also became 2x Platinum. In May 2011, Zina released a new digital single called "Ston Diko Mou Ton Planiti" (meaning "On My Own Planet").

Peggy Zina became a mother in October 2011. She gave birth to her first child.
