Penobscot Building Annex
The Penobscot Building Annex is one of the buildings in the Penobscot Block.

The Penobscot Block is a group of office buildings in downtown Detroit, Michigan. The main building is the 45-story Penobscot Building. It stands at the corner of Griswold Street and West Fort Street. The buildings are named after the Penobscot, a Native American tribe from Maine.

What Buildings Make Up the Penobscot Block?

The Penobscot Block is made up of four main buildings:

  • The Penobscot Building (1905) was built in 1905. It is 13 stories tall and is the oldest of the three Penobscot buildings.
  • The main Penobscot Building was finished in 1928. It is 45 stories tall and is the newest of the three. You can find it at the corner of Griswold Street and West Fort Street.
  • The Penobscot Building Annex was built in 1922. It is located at the corner of Shelby Street and West Congress Street.
  • The Ford Building is also part of the block. It is at the corner of Griswold Street and West Congress Street.

The block is also next to the Savoyard Centre on Shelby Street. This building used to be called the Peoples Savings Bank Building.

Together, these buildings have a total of about 1,008,000 square feet (93,650 square meters) of space. This space is used for offices and shops.
