Penyagolosa is a famous mountain in the Valencian Community, Spain. It stands tall in the Alcalatén area. This mountain is part of a larger group of mountains called the Iberian System. It is located at the eastern edge of the Iberian Peninsula. The top of Penyagolosa is 1,813 meters (about 5,948 feet) above sea level. In winter, you can often see its peak covered in snow.
Many people think Penyagolosa is the most important mountain in the Valencian Community. It looks very tall because it stands alone. For a long time, people believed it was the highest mountain in the region. However, the true highest peak is Cerro Calderón, which is 1,839 meters tall. Cerro Calderón is in a special area called Rincón de Ademuz. This area is a small part of the Valencian Community that is separated from the rest. It is like an island of land belonging to Valencia, surrounded by other regions. In Rincón de Ademuz, there are three other mountains that are also over 1,500 meters high.
At the bottom of Penyagolosa, there is an important place called Sant Joan de Penyagolosa. Many people travel there for special religious journeys.
