The People's Summit is a big meeting held every year in Chicago, USA. Different groups that want to make society fairer and better organize it. This event usually happens in June at a place called McCormick Place. The people who started the Summit wanted to keep the excitement going from Bernie Sanders' run for president in 2016.

The First People's Summit in 2016

The very first People's Summit took place in June 2016. It happened right after the 2016 presidential campaign where he ran for president.

Two main groups helped organize this first meeting. They were National Nurses United and The People for Bernie Sanders. Another group called People's Action also helped.

More than 3,000 people came to the 2016 Summit. They listened to many interesting speakers. Some of the well-known people who spoke included Rosario Dawson, Tulsi Gabbard, Gaby Hoffmann, and Naomi Klein. Other speakers were Jesus "Chuy" Garcia and Frances Fox Piven.

The Second People's Summit in 2017

The second People's Summit was held from June 9 to 11, 2017. It also took place at McCormick Place in Chicago. Several groups helped put on this event. These included People for Bernie, National Nurses United, and Our Revolution.

The main idea for the 2017 Summit was "Beyond Resistance: A People’s Movement for a Just World." This meant they wanted to move past just protesting. They aimed to build a movement for a fairer world.

More than 4,000 people attended this second summit. Bernie Sanders was the main speaker. He gave a very important speech. Other key speakers included RoseAnn DeMoro, Naomi Klein, Nina Turner, and Michael Moore. Also speaking were Linda Sarsour, Christine Pellegrino, Larry Krasner, and Chokwe Antar Lumumba.

In his main speech, Bernie Sanders talked about important goals. He called for plans that could help and grow different campaigns. He also wanted to make sure elected officials listened to what people wanted. These demands were for justice, equality, and freedom for everyone.
