Josep Coll i Martí (born October 16, 1949), known as Pep Coll, is a Spanish writer from Catalonia. He was born in Pessonada, a small town in the Pyrenees mountains. Pep Coll is known for writing many different types of books, including novels, short stories, and books for young people.

He also wrote articles for newspapers like Segre and El Periódico. The beautiful Pyrenees mountains are very important in his stories, often appearing as a magical and legendary place. His Early Life

Josep Coll i Martí grew up in a family that didn't have a lot of money. He started his studies in humanities at the Seminary of La Seu d'Urgell. Later, he continued his education at the University of Barcelona, where he earned a degree in arts and humanities.

His Career as a Teacher

Pep Coll began his teaching career in La Pobla de Segur, where he taught for five years. During this time, he became very interested in the Catalan language. After passing his teaching exams, he decided to move to the city of Lleida. From 1980 to 2010, he taught Catalan Language and Literature at the IES Màrius Torres secondary school.

His Journey as a Writer

While teaching, Pep Coll also worked as a professional writer. He published many books and wrote for different magazines and newspapers. He is the president of the Centre d'Estudis del Pallars, a group that studies the local Catalan dialect and old stories from the Pyrenees. Pep Coll often uses these traditional tales in his own books. He has won many awards for his writing, including the Catalan Critics Award for his novel Dos taüts negres i dos de blancs.
