Pepsi Zero Sugar is a popular soda that has no sugar and no calories. It is made by a company called PepsiCo. This drink used to be called "Diet Pepsi Max" and then "Pepsi Max" in North America.
It is sweetened with special ingredients called aspartame and acesulfame K. These are artificial sweeteners that make the drink taste sweet without using sugar. Pepsi Zero Sugar also contains caffeine, which is a natural stimulant found in many drinks. Before late 2022, it had almost twice as much caffeine as Diet Pepsi. A new logo for the drink was introduced in 2020.

The Story of Pepsi Zero Sugar
How It Started
Pepsi Zero Sugar first came out in the United States on June 1, 2007. Back then, it was called "Diet Pepsi Max." It arrived in Canada in March 2008. In early 2009, the word "Diet" was removed from its name.
Fun Commercials
When the drink first launched, its marketing website had a funny video. It was like a fake TV show asking people to "donate yawns" and used the slogan "WAKE UP PEOPLE." There was also a commercial during the Super Bowl XLII, which is a very big football game. This ad showed people sleeping in funny places while a song played.
For another Super Bowl XLIV in 2010, Pepsi Max made a new version of a popular old ad. The original ad from 1995 showed a Coca-Cola driver and a Pepsi driver becoming friends. They even tried each other's sodas. But the friendship ended when the Coca-Cola driver didn't want to give back the Pepsi. The new ad was similar, but this time the drivers argued over Pepsi Max versus Coke Zero. The song "Why Can't We Be Friends?" played in the background.
In 2011, the famous rapper Snoop Dogg was in an ad campaign for Pepsi Max around the time of Super Bowl XLV.
Actor Richard Speight, Jr. played the "Pepsi Max" delivery guy in many commercials. He appeared with famous baseball and football players. He also worked with Snoop Dogg and NASCAR racing champion Jeff Gordon. They made a video called Pepsi Max & Jeff Gordon Present: Test Drive in 2013.
Name Change and Big Events
On June 29, 2015, PepsiCo announced that Pepsi Max in North America would be renamed Pepsi Zero Sugar. However, the drink kept the name Pepsi Max in other countries around the world.
Pepsi Zero Sugar was a sponsor for the Super Bowl LI halftime show in 2017. The famous singer Lady Gaga was the main performer. This halftime show became the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show ever.
In January 2023, PepsiCo changed the recipe for Pepsi Zero Sugar in the United States. They reduced the amount of caffeine and removed an ingredient called ginseng. The older recipe with more caffeine and ginseng is still sold in Canada.
