History of Pepsi Zero Sugar

Early Years and Name Changes

The drink first launched in the United States on June 1, 2007. It came to Canada in March 2008. At first, it was called "Diet Pepsi Max." But in early 2009, the word "Diet" was removed from its name. It became simply "Pepsi Max."

In 2016, PepsiCo changed the name again in North America. It became "Pepsi Zero Sugar." This helped to show that it has no sugar. The "Pepsi Max" name is still used for the drink in other parts of the world. A new logo for Pepsi Zero Sugar was introduced in 2020.

Fun Advertisements

Pepsi Zero Sugar has had many interesting ads. In 2007, one ad was like a fake telethon. A telethon is a long TV show that asks for donations. This ad asked people to "donate yawns" to "WAKE UP PEOPLE." Another ad showed a football coach yawning during a game. He was given a Diet Pepsi Max to wake up.

During Super Bowl XLII (a big football game) in 2008, an ad showed people sleeping everywhere. They were bobbing their heads to the song "What Is Love." This showed how the drink could help them wake up.

For Super Bowl XLIV in 2010, Pepsi Max made a new version of an old ad. The original ad from 1995 showed a Coca-Cola driver and a Pepsi driver becoming friends. They tried each other's sodas. In the new ad, the drivers fought over the Pepsi Max. The song "Why Can't We Be Friends?" played in the background.

Famous people have also been in ads for Pepsi Zero Sugar. In 2011, the musician Snoop Dogg was in an ad campaign. Later, Richard Speight, Jr. played the "Pepsi Max" delivery guy. He appeared with baseball and football stars. He also worked with the famous race car driver Jeff Gordon. Jeff Gordon even made a fun video called Pepsi Max & Jeff Gordon Present: Test Drive.
