What the Movie is About
The story begins in 1959. A new music teacher, Mr. Derek Sanders, arrives at Blanton Academy. This is a fancy private school in South Carolina, and at that time, only white students went there. Mr. Sanders becomes the choirmaster.
He tries to help his choir students get along better. Some students, like Paul, are not very friendly. Paul thinks he should be the main singer. But another student, Taylor Bradshaw, is really impressed by the singing of Landy Allen. Landy is an African-American boy and the grandson of Zeke, who works at the school.
Taylor starts to learn more about the music and lives of the African-American people in Rivertown. He knows this could cause trouble for him at school. Mr. Sanders also sees how talented Landy is.
