Perquenco is a small town and a commune (which is like a local government area) in the southern part of Chile. It's located in the Cautín Province, within the Araucanía Region.
Long ago, a French adventurer named Orélie-Antoine de Tounens declared Perquenco the capital of his "Kingdom of Araucanía and Patagonia." However, this kingdom was not recognized by other countries. Soon after, the Chilean army, led by Cornelio Saavedra Rodríguez, took control of the area as part of Chile's expansion into the Araucanía region.
