The Pershing County Courthouse is a special building in Lovelock, Nevada. It was built a long time ago, in 1920-1921. This courthouse is designed in a style called Classical Revival. This means it looks a bit like old Greek and Roman buildings. It's where important legal things happen for Pershing County.

The Pershing County Courthouse

A Unique Design

The courthouse has a very interesting shape! Its main part is like a hexagon, which is a shape with six sides. In the middle, there's a round courtroom. Above this courtroom, there's a circular dome. A dome is a rounded roof that looks like half a sphere.

Who Designed This Building?

The courthouse was designed by a famous architect named Frederic Joseph DeLongchamps. He was very experienced. Before this project, he had already designed six other courthouses in Nevada. Mr. DeLongchamps was also the main architect for the State of Nevada.

Why Was It Built Here?

The story of the courthouse is quite interesting. A long time ago, the old courthouse in Humboldt County burned down. People were not happy about paying for a new one in Winnemucca. Because of this, a new county was created from part of Humboldt County. This new area was named Pershing County. The town of Lovelock became the main city, or "seat," for this new county. That's why a new courthouse was needed in Lovelock.

How the Courthouse Looks

The Pershing County Courthouse is made mostly of brick. It also has stone and terra cotta details. Terra cotta is a type of baked clay. The front of the building has a shallow porch with columns. These columns are in the Ionic order, which is a classic style. The building sits on a raised basement. Behind the front part, the main hexagonal building has curving walls. The dome on top of the central courtroom looks a bit like the library at the University of Virginia. Building this courthouse cost about $99,138.68 back then.
