Perstorp's History
Early Beginnings: 19th Century
Before 1862, Perstorp was like many other local areas in Sweden. Its local government was closely tied to the church.
In 1862, Sweden made big changes to how its local areas were governed. These were called municipal reforms. After these changes, Perstorp became part of a new rural municipality.
Later, on May 23, 1935, a special type of local area called a municipal community was created for Perstorp.
Growing Up: 20th Century
After World War II, Sweden continued to modernize. In 1947, the rural municipality and the municipal community of Perstorp joined together. They formed a new type of town called a köping.
Then, in 1971, Sweden had more municipal reforms. These changes created 290 larger municipalities across the country. Perstorp became part of one of these new, bigger areas, known as the Municipality of Perstorp.
