Peter Backor (born April 29, 1919, died June 30, 1988) was a Canadian ice hockey player. He played as a defenceman, which is a player who helps protect the team's goal. Peter briefly played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL. The NHL is the top professional ice hockey league in North America.
Peter Backor's Hockey Journey
Peter Backor only played one season in the NHL, but it was a very special one! He helped the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup in 1945. The Stanley Cup is one of the oldest and most famous trophies in sports. Winning it means your team is the champion of the NHL.
After that amazing season, Peter spent the next 11 years playing in other professional leagues. He played for the Pittsburgh Hornets in the AHL. The AHL is a major minor league for hockey players. With the Hornets, he won another big trophy, the Calder Cup, in 1952. He also played for the Hollywood Wolves in the PCHL and the Sault Ste. Marie Indians in the NOHL. Peter stopped playing hockey in 1956.
Peter Backor was one of the first ice hockey players of Slovak descent to play in the NHL.

Peter Backor was related to another famous NHL player, Rudy Migay. Rudy Migay also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and was also of Slovak descent. They were brothers-in-law.
