Peter Alexander Selkirk McGlashan was an important officer during the American Civil War. He fought for the Confederacy. In April 1865, he became a brigadier general. He was the very last general appointed by the Confederacy.

Who Was Peter McGlashan?
Peter McGlashan was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on May 19, 1831. He later moved to the United States. He became a soldier and fought in two different wars. His life was full of adventure and challenges.
Early Adventures in Nicaragua
Before the American Civil War, Peter McGlashan joined a group of American adventurers. They went to Nicaragua in Central America. This was during the Filibuster War (1856–1857). He served in an army led by William Walker. This experience prepared him for future military roles.
Fighting in the American Civil War
When the American Civil War began in 1861, Peter McGlashan joined the Confederate States Army. He became an officer. He was part of the 29th Georgia Infantry. He later commanded the 50th Georgia Infantry. He fought in many major battles.
Key Battles and Challenges
McGlashan saw a lot of action during the war. He fought in the Second Battle of Manassas. He was also at the Battle of South Mountain and the Battle of Sharpsburg. At Sharpsburg, he was wounded. He continued to fight in battles like Battle of Fredericksburg and Battle of Chancellorsville.
He also participated in the famous Battle of Gettysburg. Later, he was part of the Chattanooga Campaign and the Siege of Knoxville. He fought in the Battle of the Wilderness and Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. During the Valley Campaigns of 1864, he was wounded again at the Battle of Cedar Creek.
Towards the end of the war, he was wounded a third time during the Siege of Petersburg. He was captured at the Battle of Sayler's Creek. This happened just before the war ended.
After the War
After the Civil War, Peter McGlashan returned to civilian life. He settled in Isle of Hope, Georgia. He became a successful store owner. He also served his community as a mayor. He passed away on June 13, 1908. He is buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
