Peter Gammons grew up in Groton, Massachusetts. He went to Groton School and finished there in 1965. After high school, he studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
While in college, Peter worked for the student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel. He also worked at the student radio station, WXYC. This helped him start his career in journalism.

After college in 1969, Peter Gammons started his career as a journalist. He began working at The Boston Globe newspaper. For many years, he was the main writer covering the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
He also wrote for other big sports publications. He was a lead baseball writer for Sports Illustrated magazine. Peter also wrote columns for The Sporting News. He has written several books about baseball too.
Working in Television
In 1988, Peter Gammons joined ESPN, a major sports TV network. He became a popular analyst, talking about baseball in the studio. He often appeared on shows like Baseball Tonight and SportsCenter.
