Kenneth Peter Lyle Mackay, also known as Peter Inchcape, was born on January 23, 1943. He is a British nobleman, a landowner, and a businessman. He was also a member of the House of Lords, which is part of the UK Parliament, from 1994 to 1999.

Early Life and Education

Peter Inchcape is the older son of Kenneth Mackay, 3rd Earl of Inchcape and his wife, Aline Thorn Pease. He has a younger brother named James Jonathan Thorn Mackay, who was born in 1947. Both brothers attended Eton College, a famous school in England.

After school, Peter Inchcape joined the army. He trained at the Mons Officer Cadet School and then became an officer in the 9th/12th Royal Lancers regiment. His sister was Lady Lucinda Louise Mackay, who was born on December 13, 1941, and passed away on November 25, 2024.

He is also a descendant of Cornelius Vanderbilt, a very famous American businessman from history.

Career and Titles

Peter Inchcape has been involved in many businesses. He was the chairman of companies like Duncan MacNeill Tea International, Glenapp Estate Company, and Saracen Power Ltd. He also became a member of the Royal Company of Archers, which is a ceremonial group in Scotland.

On March 17, 1994, he inherited the title of Earl of Inchcape. This title, along with Viscount Glenapp, was first created in 1929. He also inherited the titles Baron Inchcape (from 1911) and Viscount Inchcape (from 1924). All these titles are part of the peerage of the United Kingdom. Because of these titles, he gained a seat in the House of Lords.

He was the leader, or Master, of the Worshipful Company of Grocers for a year, from 1993 to 1994. He is also a member of the Oriental Club, a private club in London.

Peter Inchcape owns the Glenapp estate in Scotland. This estate is located near Ballantrae in Ayrshire and includes Carlock House. He also has homes in London and at Clyffe Pypard in Wiltshire. In 2005, a newspaper called The Sunday Times estimated his wealth to be around £50 million. This placed him among the richest people in the United Kingdom at that time.

Family Life

Peter Inchcape married Georgina Nisbet on June 7, 1966. They have three children together:

  • Lady Elspeth Pease Mackay, born on November 3, 1972.
  • Ailsa Fiona Stonor, Baroness Camoys, born on April 1, 1977. She married William Stonor, 8th Baron Camoys on March 20, 2004.
  • Fergus James Kenneth Mackay, Viscount Glenapp, born on July 9, 1979.

Peter Inchcape is also the nephew of Simon Mackay, Baron Tanlaw, who is another important person in the British peerage.

His heir, Viscount Glenapp (Fergus James Kenneth Mackay), is married to Rebecca Jackson from Cottisford, Northamptonshire.
