Peterborough Speedway is a super exciting place for car racing! It's a special oval track where cars race really fast. You can find it near Peterborough, in a town called Cavan, Ontario, Canada.
The track is about one-third of a mile long. It has slightly sloped turns, which helps the cars go faster. Every Saturday night, from May to October, you can watch different types of race cars compete. These include Bone Stocks, Mini Stocks, and powerful Late Models.
Sometimes, special racing series visit the track. These include the APC United Late Model Series and different OSCAAR races. The biggest event of the year is the "Autumn Colours Classic."
History of Peterborough Speedway
Did you know Peterborough Speedway wasn't always called that? When it first opened on Sunday, May 28, 1967, it was known as Westgate Speedway. Four people from the Peterborough area built the track. It cost them about $70,000 to build!
In 1986, new owners took over and changed the name to Peterborough Speedway. The track celebrated its 50th birthday in 2017, which is a really long time for a race track to be open!
Autumn Colours Classic: A Big Race Weekend
Since 1993, Peterborough Speedway has hosted a huge racing event called the "Autumn Colours Classic." This happens every October during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
It's a three-day event filled with lots of racing action. Nearly 10 different types of race cars and teams come from all over Ontario to compete. Many people think it's one of the most important stock car races in the whole province!
