Peter, also known as Petersboro, is a small community in Cache County, Utah, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area the government counts for population, but it's not an official city or town. In 2010, about 324 people lived here. Peter is part of the larger Logan, Utah area, which includes parts of Utah and Idaho.
Where is Peter, Utah?
Peter is located on the western side of Cache County in Utah. It covers an area of about 22.4 square miles (58.0 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 21.5 square miles (55.8 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.9 square miles (2.2 square kilometers), is water.
A Look at History
The first person to settle in Petersboro was Sylvanus Collett in 1867. This was a time when many pioneers were moving into Utah.
In 1876, Petersboro became a special area called District Six within the Mendon LDS Ward. A "ward" is like a local church group. Later, in 1887, Petersboro got its own separate ward.
The community is named after Peter Maughan. He was an important early settler and a leader in the Mormon church. Peter, Utah, has always been closely connected to the nearby town of Mendon. For example, people from Peter often join Mendon residents in their yearly May Day celebration.
