Petit lac Batiscan, also known as Little Batiscan Lake, is a beautiful freshwater lake in the Canadian province of Quebec. It's found in the Capitale-Nationale region, near the town of Saint-Raymond. This lake is where the Petite rivière Batiscan begins its journey.

The area around the lake is mostly covered by forests. There are special forest roads that help people get around. The main job here is forestry, which means cutting down trees. After that, tourism is the next biggest activity. People love to visit the lake for fun!

The lake usually freezes over in early December. It stays frozen until the end of March. It's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-March.

Exploring Little Batiscan Lake

Little Batiscan Lake is surrounded by mountains. If you look at it on a map, it has a unique shape, almost like a misshapen boot!

Water Flow and Nearby Rivers

The lake's water flows out from its southeast side. This water then forms the Petite rivière Batiscan. This river travels about 5.4 kilometres (3.4 mi) before joining the Rivière à Pierre. The Rivière à Pierre then flows for about 24.5 kilometres (15.2 mi) until it meets the larger Batiscan River.

The Name of the Lake

The name "Batiscan" is used for many places in this area, especially for rivers and lakes that connect to the big Batiscan River. Petit lac Batiscan is quite close to where the Rivière à Pierre starts. The Rivière à Pierre eventually flows into the Batiscan River. There is also another lake called Batiscan Lake, which shares the same name.

The name "Petit lac Batiscan" was officially recognized on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is a group that names places in Quebec.
