Petvar Heights facts for kids
Petvar Heights are a group of high places, like tall hills or small mountains, in Antarctica. They rise up to 2,400 meters (about 7,874 feet) at a spot called Mount Mullen. These heights are found in the southeast part of the Sentinel Range, which is a mountain chain in the Ellsworth Mountains.
The name "Petvar Heights" comes from a small town called Petvar in Southern Bulgaria.
What are Petvar Heights?
Petvar Heights cover an area that looks like an oval. It is about 21 kilometers (around 13 miles) wide. This area is separated from the rest of the Sentinel Range by several natural features. To the southwest, there is the Wessbecher Glacier. To the west, you will find Kasilag Pass. And to the northwest and north, there is the Kornicker Glacier.
Inside Petvar Heights, several glaciers help drain the ice and snow. These include the Hudman, Carey, Razboyna, Gabare, and Divdyadovo Glaciers.
Where are Petvar Heights Located?
Petvar Heights are located at 78°46′30″S 84°20′20″W / 78.77500°S 84.33889°W. This means they are very far south on Earth! Maps of this area were first made by the United States in 1961. These maps were later updated in 1988 to be even more accurate.
