The Carey Glacier is a large river of ice found in Antarctica. It is located in a part of Antarctica called Ellsworth Land. This glacier flows towards another, even bigger glacier called the Minnesota Glacier.

Where is Carey Glacier?

Carey Glacier is in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains. It flows along the east side of Miller Peak and Fruzhin Peak. On its west side are Ruset Peak and Malkoch Peak. All these peaks are part of an area known as Petvar Heights.

How Carey Glacier Was Discovered and Named

The Carey Glacier was first mapped between 1957 and 1959. This mapping was done by the United States Geological Survey. They used information from ground surveys and air photos taken by the United States Navy.

The glacier was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names. They named it after Lieutenant David W. Carey. He was a pilot in the U.S. Navy Squadron VX-6. Sadly, Lieutenant Carey lost his life in an airplane accident in October 1956. This accident happened at McMurdo Sound in Antarctica.
