First Generation: 1981 to 1993
The very first Fiat Ducato was launched in July 1981. It was a big step for vans at the time.
Many Names for One Van
Interestingly, this van was also sold by other car brands. Between 1986 and 1990, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Talbot, and Zastava all made the same vehicle. They just gave it different names! Some of these names were the Alfa Romeo AR6, Peugeot J5, Citroën C25, Fiat Talento, Talbot Express, and Zastava Ducato.
First Generation Improvements
From 1985 to 1990, the first Ducato got some updates. The front and back parts of the van were improved. This included a new front grille and different headlamps.
Second Generation: 1993 to 2006
The second version of the Fiat Ducato arrived in 1993. This new design was more modern and efficient.
New Partners, New Names
Just like the first generation, this Ducato was also shared with other companies. In 1993, Citroën and Peugeot made the same vehicle. They called their versions the Citroën Jumper, Citroën Relay, and the Peugeot Boxer.
Second Generation Updates
In February 2002, the second generation Ducato received a facelift. This means its look was updated. It got a new grille, a new bonnet (the engine cover), new bumpers, and different headlamps and brake lights. These changes made it look fresh and modern.
Third Generation: 2006 to Present
The third and current version of the Fiat Ducato was launched in 2006. This generation brought even more improvements in design and technology.
More Brands, More Choices
In 2006, the partnership expanded. Citroën, Peugeot, and even Ram Trucks (a brand mainly known in North America) started making this same vehicle. Their versions were known as the Citroën Jumper, Citroën Relay, Peugeot Boxer, and the Ram ProMaster.
Third Generation Facelift
In 2014, the third generation Ducato also got an update. It received a new grille, a new bonnet, new bumpers, and updated headlamps and brake lights. These changes kept the van looking modern and competitive.
