Phở Hòa is a popular chain of restaurants that serves phở. Phở is a delicious Vietnamese noodle soup. The company started in San Jose, California, United States, in 1983. As of 2017, Phở Hòa has more than 70 restaurants. You can find them in the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, and Taiwan.

The Story of Phở Hòa

How It Started

Phở Hòa began in 1983. The first restaurant opened in Santa Ana, California. In 1984, Binh Nguyen and Phan Jiang opened another Phở Hòa. This new location was in Lion Plaza in San Jose, California. Lion Plaza was the first Asian shopping center in that city.

Growing the Business

In 1986, Phở Hòa started making its own special spice mix for its phở. This helped keep the taste consistent. In the late 1980s, they opened their first restaurant in Canada. This was a big step for the company.

Franchising and Expansion

In the 1990s, the founders created Aureflam Corporation. This company helped other people open Phở Hòa restaurants. This process is called franchising. It means people can open their own restaurant using the Phở Hòa name and recipes. Phở Hòa also opened its first restaurant in Asia in 1995.

Phở Hòa says it was the first Vietnamese restaurant chain to use franchising. In the early days, around 90% of their customers were Asian. But by 1998, about half of the customers at new locations were not Asian. This showed that more people from different backgrounds were enjoying their food.
