Phở Hòa is a popular chain of restaurants that serves phở, a delicious Vietnamese noodle soup. It started in San Jose, California, in 1983. Today, Phở Hòa has over 70 locations around the world. You can find their restaurants in the United States, Canada, and several countries in Asia.
The Story of Phở Hòa
In 1984, Binh Nguyen and Phan Jiang opened the first Phở Hòa restaurant. It was located in Lion Plaza in San Jose, California. This was an important shopping center for Asian communities. The idea for Phở Hòa came from a similar restaurant in Santa Ana.
Making Their Own Spices
In 1986, Phở Hòa started making its own special spice mix. This unique blend of spices gives their phở its famous taste. Having their own spice blend helped make their soup unique.
Growing Across the World
Phở Hòa quickly began to grow. In the late 1980s, they opened their first restaurant in Canada. This was a big step for the company. In the 1990s, they created Aureflam Corporation. This company helped other people open Phở Hòa restaurants. This way of expanding is called franchising. Phở Hòa opened its first restaurant in Asia in 1995.
Phở Hòa says it was the first Vietnamese restaurant chain to use franchising. At first, most of their customers were Asian. This was true until about 1993. But by 1998, about half of the customers at new locations were not Asian. This showed how popular phở was becoming with everyone.
