Pheasants are a group of beautiful, often colorful birds. They are part of a larger group of birds called Galliformes, which also includes chickens and turkeys. There are 35 different kinds, or species, of pheasants found around the world.
Male pheasants are usually bigger and much more colorful than females. They often have bright feathers and very long, fancy tails. Female pheasants tend to have duller colors, which helps them blend in with their surroundings, especially when they are nesting.
In many places, pheasants are hunted for sport or for food. They are considered a type of "game bird."

About Pheasants
What are Pheasants?
Pheasants are medium to large-sized birds. They are known for their strong legs and short, rounded wings. This means they are good at running on the ground but usually only fly short distances. They often live in forests, grasslands, and even near farms.
Where Do Pheasants Live?
Most pheasant species originally come from Asia. However, some kinds, like the common pheasant, have been introduced to other parts of the world, including Europe and North America. They can adapt to many different environments.
Different Kinds of Pheasants
There are many amazing types of pheasants. Some well-known ones include the common pheasant, the golden pheasant, and the Lady Amherst's pheasant. Each species has its own unique look, especially the males, with their incredible colors and patterns.
Common Pheasant
The common pheasant is one of the most widespread types. You might see them in fields or woodlands. Males have shiny green heads, red faces, and a mix of brown and gold feathers on their bodies. They also have a distinctive white ring around their neck.
Golden Pheasant
The golden pheasant is famous for its incredibly bright colors. Males have a golden crest on their heads, a bright red body, and a long, spotted tail. They are truly stunning birds!
Cheer Pheasant
The cheer pheasant is a bit different. It has more muted colors, mostly browns and grays, but it has a very long, striped tail. These pheasants live in the Himalaya mountains.
