Phidim Municipality is an important town in eastern Nepal. It is the main town, or headquarters, of the Panchthar District in the Koshi Province.

The old name for Phidim was Pheden. In the Limbu language, this means "flat land on top of hills." Phidim was once the capital of the Panchthar region of Limbuwan.

On May 18, 2014, Phidim officially became a 'municipality'. This happened when the old village area joined with other nearby villages. These included Phidim, Chokmagu, and Siwa villages.

Phidim is a key stop for people traveling to and from the Taplejung district. This district is close to the Tibetan Autonomous Region in China. Phidim is also a busy center for trade and business for the villages around it.

Getting Around Phidim

Phidim is connected to other parts of Nepal by roads. The Mechi Highway is a major road that is about 268 kilometers (167 miles) long. It starts in Charali and ends in Phungling.

You can catch buses and jeeps to Phidim from towns like Birtamod and Ilam. Another important road, the Madhya Pahadi Rajmargha, links Phidim to the Athrai Rural Municipality. This road then connects to the Koshi Highway in Myanglung.

The Madhya Pahadi Rajmargha is one of the roads that connects eastern and western Nepal through the hilly areas. It starts right here in the Panchthar district. There is also a new road called the Koshi Corridor being built. This road will connect Phidim directly to Dharan much faster.

If you visit Phidim, you will find hotels and inns. These places offer comfortable stays and food for travelers.

Phidim's Location and Nature

Phidim is located in a valley. This valley is nestled in the lower parts of the Himalayas in eastern Nepal. It is a town built on a hill.

Driving from Birtamod to Phidim takes about six hours. The road winds through beautiful areas, including Ilam. From Phidim, you can enjoy amazing views of the Himalaya mountains and other hills nearby.

The town itself has many houses with tin roofs and small concrete buildings. Two rivers, called Phewa and Hewa, flow around the hill where Phidim is built.
