Koshi Province facts for kids
Koshi (越) was a very old area in Japan. It was like a large region or a "province" a long, long time ago. Today, this land is part of three different prefectures: Niigata, Fukui, and Toyama. These prefectures are all located on Honshū, which is the largest island of Japan. Koshi was also known as a regional name, and it was part of what is now called the Hokuriku region.
History of Koshi Province
Koshi was an important area in ancient Japan. It existed for many centuries. In the early 8th century, around the 700s, the large Koshi province was divided into smaller parts. These new provinces were named Echizen, Etchū, and Echigo. This division helped the government manage the land and people better.
