Birtamod (in Nepali: बिर्तामोड नगरपालिका) is a busy city in Jhapa District, Nepal. It is a very important place for business, schools, and travel in the Jhapa area. Many nearby towns like Sarnamati Bazar and Dhulabari Bazar are connected to Birtamod. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Nepal. It is also one of the biggest cities in Jhapa.

History of Birtamod
Birtamod was once part of a large forest. Not many people lived here because of mosquitoes and the risk of malaria. Over time, people cleared the forests to grow crops on the rich land.
People from the hills of Nepal started moving to Birtamod. Nepalese people returning from Assam and West Bengal in India also came here. The original people of Birtamod and Jhapa are ethnic groups like Rajbanshi and Dhimal.
Birtamod began to grow when the Mahendra Highway was built through it. This highway connects the whole country from east to west. Because Birtamod is in the middle of the district, it became a center for business. It grew even more during the Maoist insurgency. At that time, most of the trade and banking for Jhapa district moved to Birtamod.
Getting Around Birtamod
Birtamod is connected to all parts of Nepal by the Mahendra Highway. This main road goes across the entire country.
The Chandragadhi (Bhadrapur) Airport is about 12 kilometers from Birtamod. It has many daily flights to and from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Airlines like Buddha Air and Yeti Airlines fly here. Local buses are the main way people travel around Birtamod.

Farming and Factories
The land around Birtamod is very good for farming because of its rich soil. Farmers grow crops like rice, wheat, mustard, and tea. Rice and wheat are grown during the rainy season. They are harvested in the dry winter months.
There are several large tea farms and factories just east of Birtamod. Some well-known ones are Giri Bandhu Tea Estate and Buttabari Tea Processing. Besides farming, industries are also growing. Small cement factories help meet the local demand for cement.

Culture and Festivals
Birtamod's culture is a mix of many different groups. Two of the most important festival seasons are:
- Lhosar: (ल्होसार) This festival is celebrated three times a year by different Buddhist communities. The Tamang community celebrates Sonam Lhosar. The Sherpa community celebrates Gyalpo Lhosar. The Gurung community celebrates Tamu Lhosar.
- Dashain: (दशै) Dashain is a big Hindu festival. It's a fun time for families to get together and visit relatives. This festival lasts for 15 days. People celebrate, shop, and take part in religious ceremonies.
- Tihar and Dipawali: (तिहार) Tihar lasts for five days. One of these days is called Laksmi Puja, which is also Dipawali. Dipawali is a Hindu festival of lights and colors. People light up their homes with small lamps called diya. They also enjoy fireworks during the five days of Tihar.
