Playing for Blackburn Rovers
Phil Jones was born in Preston, Lancashire. He grew up in a place called Clayton-le-Woods. He joined the youth team of Blackburn Rovers in 2002. This was when he was just 10 years old.
He moved up to the senior team for the 2009–10 Premier League season. Jones signed a two-year contract with the team. A contract is an agreement to play for a certain time. He wore the number 28 uniform for Blackburn. His first game for Blackburn was on September 22, 2009. It was a League Cup game against Nottingham Forest. Blackburn won the game 1–0.
In February 2010, he signed a new five-year contract. This new contract meant he would stay with the team longer. Jones played his first Premier League game for Blackburn against Chelsea. This game was on March 21. The game ended in a 1–1 draw at Ewood Park, which is Blackburn's home stadium.
