Phillipsville is a small community in Humboldt County, California. It's located along the South Fork of the Eel River, about 7.5 miles (12 km) north of Garberville. This area is about 289 feet (88 meters) above sea level.

Phillipsville is special because it's the most southern community on the famous Avenue of the Giants. This scenic road is known for its huge redwood trees. One cool natural landmark nearby is the Chimney Tree redwood, which looks like a giant chimney!

History of Phillipsville

A post office has served Phillipsville for many years. It first operated from 1883 to 1912. Then, it reopened in 1948 and has been open ever since.

The town's name has changed a few times. It was first called Philips Flat. This name honored George Stump Philips, who settled in the area in 1865. Later, the name was changed to Kettintelbe. This new name came from a local Native American village. When the post office reopened in 1948, the name went back to Phillipsville.

In the past, Phillipsville was home to several popular places to stay. These included the Riverwood Inn, Madrona Motel, and the DeerHorn Lodge.
