Piedmont is a ghost town located in Yavapai County, Arizona, in the United States. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have left, often because a local industry closed down. Piedmont is found between the Weaver Mountains and the Date Creek Mountains in central-west Arizona. It was on Date Creek Road, which is Yavapai Route 62. Today, the only thing left of the town is a sign along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway tracks.
Piedmont in Books
The town of Piedmont, Arizona, is mentioned in a famous novel called The Andromeda Strain. This book was written by Michael Crichton. In the story, a space virus kills everyone in the fictional town of Piedmont.
However, the Piedmont in the book is not the same as the real ghost town in Arizona. The author placed his fictional town in a different spot. In the book, Piedmont is described as being south of Las Vegas. It is also east of San Bernardino and west of Phoenix. The book also says there are no other big towns nearby for about 112 miles. This description would put the book's Piedmont roughly 40 miles east of Lake Havasu. This area is a very empty and mountainous region.
