Pieter Jansz Post (born May 1, 1608 – died May 8, 1669) was a famous Dutch Golden Age architect. He was also a talented painter and printmaker. He helped create a special style of building called Dutch baroque architecture.

About Pieter Post

Pieter Post was born in Haarlem, a city in the Netherlands. His father was a painter who worked with stained-glass. Pieter was also the older brother of another famous painter, Frans Post.

Pieter Post worked closely with Jacob van Campen. Together, they designed many important buildings. One of their most famous designs is the Mauritshuis in The Hague. This building is now a well-known art museum.

Pieter Post became a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke in 1623. This was a group for artists. He later became a painter and architect for Stadhouder Frederik Hendrik. A Stadhouder was a leader in the Dutch Republic.

From 1640, Post helped with new parts of the Paleis Noordeinde in The Hague. This is another important building. Starting in 1645, he was the main architect for Huis ten Bosch. He worked on this project with Jacob van Campen. Pieter Post died in The Hague when he was 61 years old.

Pieter Post's family also had many artists. His son Maurits became an architect, just like him. His son Johan Post became a painter. His granddaughter, Rachel Ruysch, became a very famous painter of flowers.

  • 1661-1662: Torendeel van Lambertuskerk in Buren
  • 1662-1665: Kasteel Heeze in Heeze
  • 1662-1680: Hervormde Kerk (Dutch Reformed Church) in Bennebroek
  • 1663: Kerk van Stompetoren
  • 1668: Kaaswaag (Cheese Weigh House) in Gouda
