Piffard is a small community located in Livingston County, New York, in the United States. It is considered a census-designated place (CDP) and a hamlet. A Look Back at Piffard's History

Piffard got its name from an early settler named David Piffard. A historic house called Westerly is located here. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. This register lists important places that are worth preserving.

A special religious community, the Roman Catholic Abbey of the Genesee, was started about a mile north of Piffard in 1951. It is a monastery where monks live and pray.

Geography of Piffard

Piffard is found in the northwestern part of Livingston County. It sits in the southeastern section of the town of York. To its west, Piffard shares a border with the hamlet of Retsof.

New York State Route 63 is a main road that goes through Piffard. If you travel southeast on this road for about 3 miles (5 km), you will reach Geneseo. Geneseo is the main town, or county seat, for Livingston County. If you go northwest on Route 63, you can reach Batavia, which is about 22 miles (35 km) away.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that the Piffard CDP covers an area of about 0.93 square miles (2.4 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The community is located on the western edge of the valley formed by the Genesee River.

Notable People from Piffard

One famous person born in Piffard was Henry Granger Piffard (1842–1910). He became a well-known dermatologist in New York. A dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in skin diseases. Henry Granger Piffard also wrote the first complete book about dermatology in America.
