Pig is a small, unincorporated community located in southern Edmonson County, Kentucky, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county.

The Story Behind the Name: Pig

Have you ever wondered how places get their names? The community of Pig has a pretty unique story! People living there had trouble agreeing on a name for their new settlement. One day, during a discussion about what to call the area, a resident saw a small pig walking on the road. This funny moment led everyone to agree on the name "Pig." And so, the community got its unusual name!

Exploring the Geography of Pig

Pig is located right where two important roads meet: KY 259 and KY 422. These roads help people travel to and from the community.

  • KY 259 heads northwest towards towns like Rhoda and Brownsville.
  • It also goes southeast towards US 31W, another major highway.

Right near Pig, you'll find Mammoth Cave National Park. This famous park is known for having the longest cave system in the world! A road called Park Boundary Road (also known as Cedar Sink Road) connects to KY 422 and leads right into the park, eventually reaching KY 70.

Pig is about 21.2 miles (34.1 kilometers) northeast of Bowling Green. Bowling Green is a much larger city in Warren County. The Pig community is considered part of the larger Bowling Green area, which is a group of towns and cities that are connected.
