About Pineland's Location
Pineland covers a total area of about 2.1 square miles (5.4 km2). Most of this area, about 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2), is land. A smaller part, about 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2), is water.
Pineland's Climate
The weather in Pineland has hot and humid summers. The winters are usually mild to cool. This type of weather is known as a humid subtropical climate.
Pineland's History
Pineland started in 1902 when the Gulf, Beaumont and Great Northern Railway was built through the area. It was first a lumber camp, a place where people worked with wood.
In 1904, a post office opened in Pineland. Three years later, in 1907, a sawmill began operating. A sawmill is a factory that cuts logs into lumber. This mill was run by the Garrison Norton Lumber Company.
After three years, Thomas L. L. Temple, who was part owner of the mill, bought out the other owners. He then started the Temple Lumber Company. In 1941, the people living in Pineland voted for their town to become an official city.
