Piney Creek (Kings River tributary) facts for kids

Piney Creek is a small stream located in the southern part of Carroll County, in the state of Arkansas. It's like a smaller river that flows into a bigger one. Piney Creek is a tributary of the Kings River, meaning it's one of the streams that feeds water into the Kings River.

Where Does Piney Creek Start and End?

Piney Creek begins high up in the mountains, near a place called Usery Mountain. It starts at an elevation of about 1,660 feet (which is pretty high!). The water first appears on the southwest side of Usery Mountain, not far from Arkansas Highway 68 and the small community of Gobbler.

From its starting point, Piney Creek flows generally towards the northwest. As it travels, it runs alongside Arkansas Highway 103 and passes by the towns of Rudd and Metalton. At Metalton, the stream goes under Arkansas Highway 21. It continues its journey northwest until it finally joins the Kings River. This meeting point is right on the border between Carroll County and Madison County. Here, the elevation is much lower, around 1,132 feet.

How Piney Creek Got Its Name

The name "Piney Creek" is quite simple to understand! The stream was given this name because of all the pine trees that grow along its banks. Imagine walking along the creek and seeing lots of tall, green pine trees – that's how it got its name!
