Pioneer is a small community in Amador County, California. It's a special kind of place called a "census-designated place." This means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially a city. Pioneer is located in the mountains, about 5 miles (8 km) east of Pine Grove. It sits at a height of 2,986 feet (910 meters) above sea level, along State Route 88. In 2010, about 1,094 people lived there.
The old Pioneer Station, built around 1925, is in Pioneer. Many people thought it was a stop for the famous Pony Express, but that's not true! It was actually a general store where people could buy gas, water, and find places to camp. Today, the old Pioneer Station is a private home. Pioneer also got its own post office in 1947.
