Pirouline is a popular brand of cookies. They are thin, rolled wafers filled with a creamy center. These tasty treats are sold in the United States by the DeBeukelaer Corporation.

Pirouline cookies were first made in 1984 by Peter DeBeukelaer. They are similar to Caprice Papadopoulou Wafers, which started in Greece in 1978. Pirouline cookies are baked until they are golden brown. Then, they are rolled into a tube shape and filled with a delicious cream. Each cookie has a special swirled stripe on the outside. You usually find them sold in a tall, round tin. The company makes these cookies in a large factory that is about 115,000 square feet big. More than 200 people work there.

The Story of Pirouline Cookies

The DeBeukelaer family started making biscuits in Belgium around 1860. Their company, the 1st Biscuit and Wafer Co., says it invented the rolled wafer cookie.

  • In 1978, Peter DeBeukelaer, whose family started the original company, created DBC Corporation. This company is also known as DeBeukelaer Corporation.
  • In the same year, the company protected its special swirled design, calling it the Pirouline Swirl.
  • By 1984, DeBeukelaer built a cookie factory in Madison, Mississippi, just to make Pirouline cookies.
  • In 1993, they introduced a new version of the cookie. This one was filled with cream and came in tins.
  • In 2001, the company started making its own cookie tins. This helped them reduce the amount of pollution from shipping cans. It also made it easier to get enough tins when they needed them.
  • To make even more cookies, the company opened a new factory and warehouse in 2007. This new building was about 100,000 square feet.
  • In 2009, Pirouline started selling its cookies in a smaller 3.25-ounce tin.

Different Kinds of Pirouline

The very first Pirouline cookie was a hollow, rolled wafer. It had the famous Pirouline Swirl and was lined with chocolate inside.

  • In 1993, they launched a new cookie called Crème de Pirouline. This one was filled with a creamy chocolate hazelnut flavor.
  • Over time, they added other cream flavors like vanilla, strawberry, pumpkin spice, and dulce de leche.
  • The chocolate-lined cookies are always sold in boxes. The cream-filled ones come in tins or cartons.
  • Today, Pirouline makes many different kinds of special cookies. You can find them in grocery stores and specialty food shops all over the world.
