The plain-throated antwren (Isleria hauxwelli) is a small bird that lives in the Amazon Basin. It belongs to the Thamnophilidae family, which includes many antbirds. This bird prefers wet lowland forests. It often stays close to the ground. You might see it clinging sideways to young trees.

Discovering the Plain-throated Antwren

This interesting bird was first described in 1857. An English zoologist named Philip Sclater gave it its first scientific name. He called it Formicivora hauxwelli. Later, in 2012, scientists decided it needed a new group. They placed it in the current genus, Isleria.

Where the Plain-throated Antwren Lives

The plain-throated antwren can be found across the entire Amazon Basin. This huge area covers parts of several South American countries. These include Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Bolivia. It likes places with lots of moisture. Its favorite spots are tropical lowland forests.

What Makes This Bird Special

Unlike some other antwrens, this species likes to stay low. It spends most of its time near the forest floor. It often clings to small trees or bushes. This behavior helps it find its food. It looks for insects and other small creatures.
