Plata is a special kind of neighborhood called a barrio. It is located in the town of Moca, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 2,797 people lived in Plata.
A Look at Plata's Past
Plata, like the rest of Puerto Rico, has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 663 people lived in Plata barrio at that time.
