Plevna is a small place in the northeastern part of Madison County, Alabama, in the United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. People who live in Plevna often have mailing addresses that say New Market.
History of Plevna
Plevna got its name from a city far away called Pleven in Bulgaria. This city was a very important location during a big conflict called the Russo-Turkish War (1877–78). It was named to honor that place.
A post office served the Plevna area for many years. It opened in 1878 and continued to operate until 1955.
